Bystanders rescue couple stuck inside burning vehicle
Police: ‘Heroic' actions prevent incident from being worse
BELOIT, Wis. — Two bystanders helped a Beloit couple stuck inside a burning vehicle Wednesday, according to a release.
The Beloit Fire Department was dispatched to reports of a vehicle fire with two occupants trapped inside, officials said. Jim Fregeau and his wife were traveling westbound on Henry Avenue when their car suddenly stopped running.
Brendon Golden was pushing the car to the side of the road when flames started coming from the engine compartment of the vehicle, according to the release. Fregeau and his wife tried to get out of the vehicle, but were unable to open the windows or unlock the doors.
Golden and a second bystander, Kerry Mann, were able to break the two windows of the vehicle and help the elderly couple out of the vehicle, officials said. Fregeau and his wife were not injured, but Mann sustained some minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
“They thanked us. They were still in a state of shock at that moment, but I was kind of in shock myself, so I just wanted to walk away and hopefully the firemen put the fire out,” Golden said.
Beloit Fire Department officials said Golden and Mann’s heroic actions prevented the incident from becoming worse.
