Burke, Walker haul in big bucks as election nears
MADISON, Wis. — Newly filed reports show well-heeled donors are opening their wallets in the waning days of Wisconsin’s hotly contested race for governor, cutting big checks to help both Republican Gov. Scott Walker and Democratic challenger Mary Burke.
Walker reported raising nearly $10.4 million in a roughly three-month period that ended last week. That includes nearly $2.4 million from political action committees after a court ruling ended a cap set at around $700,000.
Burke reports raising about $9.3 million over the period, including about $644,000 from PACs.
Burke gave her campaign $4.6 million during the period.
Other filings show that Beloit businesswoman and billionaire Diane Hendricks gave the state Republican Party $1 million, while Milwaukee philanthropist and longtime Democratic backer Lynde Uihlein gave $1 million to the state Democratic Party.
