Burke blames Walker for Trek story; Walker denies
Walker, Burke campaign in northeast Wisconsin
PORT WASHINGTON, Wis. — Gov. Scott Walker says he had nothing to do with allegations that his Democratic opponent Mary Burke was fired from her job at the family business Trek Bicycles in 1993.
Walker said Thursday during a campaign stop in Sheboygan that he had heard rumors for months, but it he is not behind the story coming out in the final week of the campaign.
Former Trek president Tom Albers said Burke was fired from her job. Burke and current Trek CEO John Burke adamantly deny the allegation.
Walker says he blames the media for not doing a better job vetting Burke, saying reporters have done a better job covering his bald spot and thumb injury caused by a minor hunting accident.
