Burglars notice clerk, flee

Two men who broke into a Janesville gas station fled when they found a clerk inside, according to police.

Officers were called to the Stop-N-Go Convenience Center at 714 Center Ave. at 2:51 a.m. Monday when a clerk reported two men had entered the business from a rear locked door. The clerk told police the men were carrying items and fled when they saw the clerk.

The business was open at the time, but all doors were locked while the clerk was cleaning. The thieves did not display any weapons and nothing was taken, police said.

Officers found tools and containers at the scene.

A K-9 unit tried to track the men. Surveillance video is being reviewed.

One man was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and the other was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt. Both were wearing jeans and black bandannas.
