Burglars carrying duffel bags spooked by liquor store’s alarm system, police say

An alarm at a Madison liquor store likely scared burglars away early Sunday, police said.

The Madison Police Department said surveillance video at Steve’s Liquor on Junction Road shows two people carrying duffel bags entering the store at about 5:30 a.m.

According to the report, a glass door had been shattered by a rock. One of the burglars stood as lookout while the other ventured into the store. The burglar going inside likely triggered an audible motion alarm, police said.

The sound of the alarm appeared to have scared the burglars off nearly empty-handed. One burglar grabbed a bottle of alcohol before both scurried off, the report said.
