Bullet hits SUV, empty child safety seat

An empty child safety seat in an SUV was struck by a bullet during a daytime shooting on Madison’s north side, according to a release from Madison police.

Officers were called at 3:55 p.m. Tuesday to the Sherman Plaza parking lot at 2813 N. Sherman Ave. on a report of a shooting.

Two men, ages 21 and 24, were inside the SUV when it was struck. They drove away from the parking lot after the gunfire.

Police said they believe the gunman shot from inside another vehicle.

Detectives have a lead, but are also seeking information from the public. Anyone with information is asked to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.

Police said it doesn’t appear the shooting is connected to other recent acts of gun violence.
