Bucks announce Lisa Byington as TV play-by-play announcer
Byington will be the first woman to be a full time play-by-play announcer for a men's pro sports team
MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The Milwaukee Bucks have a new voice. Lisa Byington will serve as play-by-play announcer for games on Bally Sports Wisconsin, the team announced Wednesday.
Byington will make history as the first woman to ever serve as a full-time TV play-by-play announcer for a men’s professional sports team.
Byington previously worked as an announcer for CBS and Turner Sports, where she became the first female play-by-play voice of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. She also worked the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, calling men’s and women’s soccer matches, as well as the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Byington played basketball and soccer at Northwestern and grew up in Portage, Mich.
“While we appreciate the significance of selecting Lisa, and we celebrate this historic moment, Lisa earned this position based on her extraordinary skills and experience,” Bucks and Fiserv Forum President Peter Feigin said in a statement Wednesday. “We look forward to Lisa becoming the voice of the Bucks.”
