Brothers arrested after purse snatching outside Target, chase

Two Chicago men were arrested after a purse snatching in front of a department store and chase Monday morning, according to a release from Madison police.

Police were called to Target at 4301 Lien Road at 10:41 a.m. for a report of a woman who had her purse taken from her cart as she was loading her car and assisting her two children. Witnesses said two men ran to a red Jeep Cherokee with Illinois plates and drove away.

A responding officer spotted the Jeep and attempted to stop it on southbound Highway 51. Police said the Jeep sped to 75 mph and ran a red light at Highway 51 and Highway 30. Police cut off the pursuit out of safety concerns.

The Jeep was found abandoned, and officers spotted the suspects, who were arrested in the area of Packers Avenue and Aberg Avenue after a foot chase.

The 18-year-old and 24-year-old men who were arrested are brothers. Charges are pending.

The red Jeep was reported stolen from Illinois.
