Broadway musical ‘Hamilton’ headed to Madison

A wildly popular Broadway rap musical is coming to Madison, according to a news release.

The Overture Center for the Arts said Wednesday that the national tour of the Broadway musical ” Hamilton ” will be part of its 2019-2020 season.

Overture officials didn’t say when tickets would be available to the general public, but said the Broadway at Overture season subscribers who renew their subscriptions for the 2019-2020 season will be able to guarantee their seats for the show.

Details regarding engagement dates will be announced at a later time, Overture officials said.

Alexander Hamilton was an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington’s right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and was the new nation’s first treasure secretary, the release said. With book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and musical direction and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, “Hamilton” is based on Ron Chernow’s biography of founding father Alexander Hamilton.
