Bridge removal, replacements over interstate start Monday
Construction work on two bridges on Interstate 39/90 near Edgerton is scheduled to start Monday, according to a release.
Work is scheduled to start Monday on the Edgerton Road bridge over the interstate, north of the Highway 73/51 interchange near Edgerton, officials said. Starting Tuesday, the Edgerton Road bridge will be removed for four months as crews build the new bridge in the same spot.
The County Road A bridge over Interstate 39/90 north of the Highway 51 interchange will be removed on Sept. 8, according to the release. Crews will be building a new bridge in the same spot over four months.
Alternate routes for both bridges will be required. A signed detour of the County Road A bridge will follow Highway 73, County Road B, County Road W and Highway 51.
The interstate will remain open to two lanes in each direction during daytime hours, but there will be periodic nighttime lane closures, officials said.
The bridge projects will improve safety, meet current design standards and lengthen the bridge over the interstate, in advance of the interstate expansion from the Illinois state line to the Highway 12/18 interchange near Madison, according to the release.
The $2.4 million Edgerton Road bridge project and the $2.9 million County Road A bridge project are expected to be done in mid-December.
