‘Brew City Battle’ is official, Badger hoops to play at American Family Field
MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Badger basketball is coming to Milwaukee this season, but in the last place you would expect it.
Wisconsin’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will play a doubleheader at American Family Field on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022. UW Athletics announced the games Tuesday.
The women will take the court first against Kansas State and the men will follow with a matchup against the Stanford Cardinal. Game times will be announced at a later date.
The Badger women have never played Kansas State, but are scheduled to play the Wildcats in Kansas in 2023. The Badger men have played Stanford once before, a 62-46 win at the 2018 Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas. UW announced Tuesday that the Badger men and Cardinal will meet for a game at a to-be-determined neutral site in California in 2024.
“We are absolutely thrilled for our team to be competing in the Brew City Battle,” women’s head coach Marisa Moseley said. “This doubleheader with our men’s program is an incredible opportunity for not only our players, but also for our fans.”
Seating at American Family Field will be understandably unique. Team officials said that the basketball court will be layed across the infield, with center court near the pitcher’s mound. Temporary bleachers will be set up along the side of the court near second base, with field-level seating surrounding the rest of the court. Almost all regular seating areas at the stadium will be available for fans.
The Brew City Battle will be the first college basketball game played at a baseball-only stadium since the University of San Diego took on San Diego State at Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, in 2015. The event will also mark the first time that a basketball game has ever been played at the Brewers’ home ground.
UW Athletics donors, as well as basketball season ticket holders, will have priority access to tickets beginning July 18. Tickets for the general public go on sale July 26. Visit brewcitybattle.com for ticket information.
