Brennan’s gets a new life with Brennan’s Cellars

One of the former Brennan’s Markets will reopen as Brennan’s Cellars in early December, but under new ownership.

All Brennan’s Markets closed in September after 75 years of being in business.

The new owner, Tim Mulcahy, a former Brennan’s Market employee, assembled a team of former Brennan’s managers and buyers to open Brennan’s Cellars.

“After speaking with thousands of customers over the summer, it seemed that Madisonians weren’t ready to let it go either,” Mulcahy said.

Brennan’s Cellars will open in the former location at 8210 Watts Road, according to a release. Brennan’s Cellars will stock many Brennan’s products, including Wisconsin cheese, fresh fruit, specialty food, wine and micro-beer. However, Brennan’s Cellars will place a larger emphasis on meats, deli and prepared food.

Mulcahy said they are working hard to bring back some of their customers’ favorites, including the holiday gift program, Wisconsin cheese boxes, Sweet N’ Hot Pepper Relish and Chin Drippin’ Idaho Peaches.

Along with all of the favorites, Mulcahy notes that they are putting a larger emphasis on options to-go to cater to those with busy lifestyles. Brennan’s Cellars will continue a sampling program and plans to add new in-store seating.

“It’s been an intense couple of months bringing Brennan’s back to life,” Mulcahy said. “We can’t wait to open and welcome Madison back.”
