Boyfriend beats woman with aluminum bat for several minutes, officials say

A 63-year-old woman is recovering after being assaulted with a baseball bat Saturday night in Muscoda.

Police were called to a home on West River Road around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Officers found Candice A. Carr, of Muscoda, bound with duct tape and severely beaten, according to a release. Carr reportedly had bruises and lacerations from being beaten with a bat.

Carr told officers she and her boyfriend, David G. Friese, 61, also of Muscoda, had gotten into a argument that turned physical.

Friese reportedly hit Carr several times with an aluminum bat, police said. When Carr tried to fight back, Friese bound her with duct tape and continued to hit her with the bat.

According to the release, the assault lasted several minutes and ended with Friese committing suicide with a 12-gauge shotgun.

Carr was transported to Richland Hospital with broken bones, cuts and bruises, authorities said. She was later transported to UW Hospital and is listed in fair condition.

Police say alcohol did not play a factor in this incident.
