Body of kayaker found in river in Lafayette County
Empty boat found floating in river Sunday night
ARGYLE, Wis. — The body of a 57-year-old Argyle man has been found in the Pecatonica River after an apparent boating accident Sunday night, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to the river after an unattended kayak was found in the east branch of the Pecatonica about 8 p.m. Sunday. A paddle presumably belonging to the kayak was seen floating in the water about 300 yards away, according to the Sheriff’s department.
Deputies came to the scene with a boat and started dragging the bottom of the river. Early Monday morning, sheriff’s deputies said the body of Dale Jelinek was found in the water about a quarter mile downstream from where the kayak was anchored.
The Sheriff’s Department doesn’t believe there is any criminal activity connected with the death.
