MADISON, Wis. — The man whose body was found in the southeast area of Lake Monona early Saturday has been identified.
Erik Winders, 19, of Madison, was found in the Yahara River near Squaw Bay at 3:08 a.m., officials said.
Preliminary autopsy results indicate Winders died from an accidental drowning, according to a release from the Dane County Medical Examiner.
Three men fishing from a boat found the body and reported it, according to the sheriff’s office. Monona EMS, Monona police and the Dane County Sheriff’s Office Marine and Trail Enforcement met the fishermen at the shoreline at Graham Park, where the men had escorted the body.
The sheriff’s office said it is interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen a man walking in the area of the Yahara River between 7 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday.
