Body found in Rock River is teen missing since November
BELOIT, Wis. – Officials in the city of Beloit confirm 18-year-old Jeremiah Young was the person found in the Rock River on Monday morning.
Young was last seen Nov. 19 walking to Beloit Memorial High School near White Avenue. Police had since opened an investigation into his disappearance, but were asking for help from the public to locate him.
Young’s parents said he had a cognitive delay and had been without medicine he was supposed to be taking daily.
“The preliminary investigation does not indicate anything criminally suspicious,” Beloit police said in a statement Tuesday. “We extend our sincerest condolences to Jeremiah’s family and loved ones.”
The Rock County Medical Examiner said Tuesday afternoon that there was “no suggestion of foul play associated with this death.”
The medical examiner’s office didn’t say Tuesday how Young died, but said the preliminary results of that autopsy are pending further study.
Beloit Memorial High School Interim Principal Emily Pelz said in a letter to students families Tuesday that staff would be available in the counseling office to help students, parents and school personnel, if needed.
“We are saddened by the loss to our school community and will make every effort to help you and your child,” Pelz wrote. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Jeremiah’s family and friends at this time.”
