Body found in Portage canal
Police recover body of young adult man
PORTAGE, Wis. — Portage police said a body has been found in the canal in the vicinity of the old river locks Thursday morning.
Police said they responded to a report of a body about 9:50 a.m. The locks are located near the intersection of Lock Street and Edgewater Street in the city of Portage.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and Medical Examiner’s Office joined Portage officers and investigators in the recovery of the body of a young adult man.
The investigation at the scene led to the identity of the man, police said.
Police said they are continuing to investigate, however at this time foul play is not considered a factor in the man’s death.
The man’s identity is being withheld pending the full notification of next of kin.
