Boathouse brings dining to the pier
A Lakeside Bite: The Maryland crab cake sandwich with roasted tomato remoulade on a focaccia bun.

Boathouses once commonly graced Madison’s lakeshore, but they don’t so much anymore. The Boathouse is Edgewater’s restaurant. It carries on the hotel’s much-adored summer tradition of snacking and drinking on the pier. Open year-round, it features an outside deck and a two-level bar and dining area with floor-to-ceiling windows that spectacularly size up Lake Mendota. Standouts on the starters, soup, salad and sandwich menu are peel-and-eat shrimp sold by the dozen, seafood Louis salad (worthy of the stylish Rigadoon Room once located here), crab cake sandwich and a shrimp basket. Most memorable, though, is the million-dollar view.
