Hometown: I’m from Cissna Park, Illinois. It’s a really small farming town – around 800 people – in the central part of the state.

High School: Cissna Park High School

College: Southern Illinois University Carbondale – Go Salukis! I also did the Public Affairs Reporting program though the University of Illinois Springfield.

Other Journalism Experience: WSIU-TV in Carbondale, Illinois, WNDU-TV in South Bend, Indiana and Illinois Statehouse News

What is your favorite part about living in Madison? Madison is a really unique city. There is always something to do – whether that’s stocking up on goodies at the Farmer’s Market or watching the sunset at the Union Terrace. However my favorite place in the entire city is Tenney Park. I love sitting on this giant tree stump there, looking out at Lake Mendota.

What is the biggest news story that you’ve covered? I’ll never forget helping out a TV station in Texas days after Hurricane Harvey hit. I met some truly wonderful people, who showed me nothing but love during their dark time. It was a very moving experience that taught me a lot as a journalist and person.

What do you like to do in your spare time? I have a pretty cool “dog son” named Duncan. We love hitting up the parks in Madison. I also love to swim, read, shop at thrift stores, workout, visit local breweries and wineries and spend time with loved ones.

What is your favorite kind of ice cream? I love anything that has caramel in it! The more caramel the better!

What is your favorite place to vacation? My family has visited the Jersey Shore for years. My mom was born and raised in Philly and would go “down the shore” every summer as a kid. My grandparents continued that tradition with us grandkids. Nothing beats a week with family in Ocean City.

Who is your hero and why? I come from a family of strong women and admire all of them. However, I would not be who I am today without my grandma and mom. My grandma was the kindest woman I knew – someone who found ways to love those who wronged her. And my mom is very similar. She’s positive and loving and just so nice.

What is your favorite sport to play or watch? I love to play volleyball but am a die-hard Chicago sports fan. I love my Cubbies and DA BEARS!

Who would you most like to interview alive or dead, and why?  We lost my dad and grandma unexpectedly a few years ago and I would love to just have one more conversation with them. We had some of the best moments sitting on my grandma’s porch, talking over Diet Cokes.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? Be Kind!

What is your most memorable travel experience? Travel is something I really value. I’m lucky my parents found ways for us to go on family vacations growing up. I’m a sucker for a beach and good sunset. I also just went to Europe for the first time this past spring. I spent 3 weeks hopping from country to country with friends. I fell in love with Paris and Madrid and hope to visit again soon. If you’ve traveled abroad – I’d love to swap stories, just email me of find me on Facebook!
