Bicyclist Seriously Injured In Crash With SUV

Madison police said a 77-year-old Madison man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries following a bicycle versus sport utility vehicle crash Saturday afternoon.

The 31-year-old SUV driver said both he and the cyclist were southbound on Todd Drive, and that both had both gone under the West Beltline overpass at about 1:45 p.m., according to police.

The driver was making a right turn when he heard a noise from the passenger side of his SUV, police said. He looked in his mirror and saw the bicyclist was down.

Police said that the bicyclist’s injures did not initially appear to be life-threatening, but it was later revealed that the 77-year-old suffered internal bleeding and a broken pelvis.

Police said the driver was cited for failure to yield to a bicyclist.
