#BeYou campaign encourages kids to be, celebrate themselves

Self-acceptance may be the key to a happy life.

It means that no matter the wins (and losses) we endure, along with learning our strengths (and weaknesses), we accept who we are. That can be a challenge for adults, but also for kids, who are bombarded with messages about who they should be.

WISC-TV and SSM Health are working together on a Time For Kids: Time to Talk initiative to encourage kids to just #BeYou. Because after all, they’re happiest when they can be who they want to be.

As a special education teacher at @SavannaOaksMS, Maria tries to teach students that being unique is a gift. Join Maria, SSM Health & @WISCTV_News3 in teaching kids that it’s wonderful to #BeYou!

“People of all ages tend to focus more on their shortcomings than their strong points,” says SSM Health psychologist Dr. Kathleen Hipke. “If we’re talking specifically about kids, we encourage parents to help their children identify and celebrate strengths because that is bound to impact their confidence, mood and mental well-being.”

Advertisements, news reports and social media messages will showcase the uniqueness of children across our community in the #BeYou campaign.

We want you to get in on the fun! Print off this #BeYou sign and show us an example of you being you.
