Beverley Jean Himsel
Beverley Jean Himsel, age 82, and her husband of 61 years, Eldon Henry Himsel, met Jesus together, on Monday, November 24, 2014. Bev was born on her family farm in Verona, WI, on March 30, 1932, to Bert and Pearl Thompson. She grew up on her family’s farm, married the love of her life on September 3, 1953 and continued farming with Eldon until they moved into town in 1968. Bev had a varied career including administrative work, childcare provider, data entry, librarian, and camp nurse, but her passion was being a loving and dedicated caretaker to her children and grandchildren. Her church family and community were able to depend on her for any need. She was involved in AWANA, Red Hatters, headed up the Operation Christmas Child shoebox collection, and volunteered for many organizations. Bev enjoyed reading her Bible and various crafts including, knitting, ceramics, cake decorating, and rosemaling. She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and upholding family traditions. A highlight was, she and Eldon spending individual time with each grandchild on their 13 year old trip, anywhere of their choice, in the US. Bev will be greatly missed by her family, in part, because her family knew she was only a phone call away, and was willing to help in any way she could at the drop of a hat.
Beverley is survived by her children, Beth Strasburg, Steven (Chris) Himsel, Sue Ewers, and Mary DeGroot; grandchildren, Christopher and Joshua (Gretchen) Strasburg, Benjamin (Maggie) Himsel, Lacy (Daniel) Blair, and Kyle, Chelsey, Dylan, Logan, Mikayla, and Marcus DeGroot; great grandchildren, Liam Blair and Jackson Strasburg; siblings, Carol (Alex) Miller and Marvin (Delores “Cookie”) Thompson; sister-in-law, Shirley Knight. Further survived by other family and friends. Preceded in death by her son Mark and brother Lester Thompson.
A service will be held at 11:00AM at MEMORIAL BAPTIST CHURCH, 201 S. Main St., Verona, on Saturday, December 6, 2014, with Pastor Kirt Schmidt officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 220 Enterprise Drive, Verona, on Friday, December 5, 2014 and again from 10:00AM until time of service at the church on Saturday. Burial at Verona Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be used towards Sky Lodge Christian Camp and Operation Christmas Child’s shoeboxes. In fact, a week ago, November 18, Beverley prayed, as was her annual custom, over the boxes that were sent out this year. To view and sign this guestbook, please visit: www.ryanfuneralservice.com
