MADISON – Betty Jane Dorscheid, age 81, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014.

Betty was born on April 9, 1933 to Leslie and Mary Matts. She graduated from Edgewood High School in 1951. Following high school, Betty was employed at the Pentagon in Washington DC. She returned to Madison and married life-long love, George Dorscheid in 1955. Betty was a postal station manager at the Lake City Bank, retiring after 20 years.

Throughout her life, she found joy and purpose in helping others. Mom was honored by the Madison Police Department as an “outstanding citizen”, for her years of service in managing the RSVP Self Report Program. She was a very active charter member at St. Peter Catholic Church serving as a Eucharistic Minister and Morning Mass Minister. She was a faithful woman, always offering her prayers for others. Betty would drive friends and neighbors to their appointments, church, the grocery store or simply for lunch at Culver’s.

Betty is survived by her children Deb (Earl) Freeman, Les (Susan) and Mary (Pat) Smith; grandsons, Brandon, Spencer, Kyle, Andrew and Connor; great grandson, Dane; and sister, Mary Jiru. Further survived by other family and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, and 3 brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Ave. Madison, at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, with Monsignor Charles Schluter presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM until time of Mass on Wednesday. Burial at Roselawn Memorial Park.
