Cave of the Mounds, Blue Mounds
There’s no excuse not to check out this lovely National Natural Landmark, considering Cave of the Mounds celebrates the 75th anniversary this year of its opening and is open all but three days of the year (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day). Besides a guided tour of the cave, which has a paved, lighted passageway, other things to see and do include a gemstone mine, butterfly garden, fossil dig and hiking trails. The cave was inadvertently discovered following a quarry blast in 1939.
