There’s a lot to love about the suburbs of Madison. They’re places where small-town charm, unique traditions and landmarks brimming with character and history abound. We wanted to know more about these Dane County gems, and so we asked you about your favorite suburban spots. You answered, resoundingly! You told us about a coffeehouse that’s become “Oregon’s living room” and an smile-inducing town slogan with roots in Norwegian folklore. You pointed us to a neighborhood bar with a resident ghost, as well as a beach with a dress code that’s, uh, bare-ly there. And that’s just a start. Welcome to this year’s Best of the ‘Burbs.
How we did it
For the first Best of the ‘Burbs readers poll, we invited the public to cast votes in more than thirty categories throughout the month of March. We were blown away by how many great places voters called out, and it led to the unearthing of some pretty interesting back stories we’re happy to share with you here. Don’t see a restaurant or attraction you think should have made the cut? Be sure to vote in next year’s Best of the ‘Burbs poll. We’re hoping to create a bit of healthy hometown rivalry with this list, so spread the word!
