Best of the ‘Burbs 2015: Park

Lakeview Park, Middleton
Some families from as far as Milwaukee visit Middleton just to spend a day at Lakeview Park, public lands director Penni Klein says. They rent out shelters or post up at a picnic area while the kids frolic in the park’s 4,500-square-foot splashpad. There are also fishing piers around Lakeview’s three-acre pond, hiking trails, a baseball field and playground equipment to please everyone in the pack. While the sustainability-focused park’s scenic views and fun features speak for themselves, the park also holds a statewide record–Lakeview has qualified for the National Parks and Recreation Association Gold Medal Award three times in the category of cities with a population of 30,000 or fewer.
Finalists: McKee Farms Park, Fitchburg; Stewart Lake County Park, Mount Horeb
