Best of the ‘Burbs 2015: Community newspaper

Middleton Times-Tribune, Middleton
The Middleton Times-Tribune has been covering happenings in the city of Middleton since 1893, when it began as the Middleton Times. Matt Geiger, managing/news editor of the 122-year-old newspaper, attributes the publication’s longevity to the health of the local marketplace combined with the community’s hometown spirit. “Middleton is a unique animal. It’s not a small town. Most community newspapers don’t have fifty restaurants to write about. In a way, you get more of the urban-type news,” says Geiger, who adds that his weekly publication has a circulation of 2,078. In addition to editing the Middleton Times-Tribune, Geiger also serves as news editor of the News-Sickle-Arrow in Mazomanie and managing/news editor of the Mount Horeb Mail. News Publishing Company Inc., based in Black Earth, owns all three newspapers.
Finalists: News-Sickle-Arrow, Mazomanie; Mount Horeb Mail, Mount Horeb
