Best of the ‘Burbs 2015: Coffee shop

Firefly Coffeehouse, Oregon
This spacious and eclectic coffee shop is a delightful discovery for those unfamiliar with Oregon. For the residents of this 4.4-square-mile village, Firefly is as comfortable as their own homes. So it makes sense that it’s called “Oregon’s living room,” a name the shop has embraced as its motto. Its private back room and array of tables, chairs and couches offer nooks and crannies for every study party, chamber meeting and Sunday coffee date. Grab a spot–maybe next to the vintage Zoltar crystal ball machine or the comfy couch by the fireplace–to enjoy your brewed beverage. Shop owner Erika Weidler touts the coffeehouse’s specialty drink: the Firefly Mocha, a rich combination of dark chocolate and orange. Another crowd favorite is the shop’s homemade granola bars, packed with fruit, natural peanut butter and agave.
Finalists: Tuvalu Coffeehouse and Gallery, Verona; Barriques, Middleton
