Best of the ‘Burbs 2015: Art Gallery
Rowe Pottery Works, Cambridge
It’s not your typical art gallery, but Rowe Pottery Works is a Cambridge staple that has been drawing people to Main Street since 1975. The store’s front retail space displays Rowe Pottery’s hand-thrown and hand-decorated pieces that owner Beverly Semmann calls “functional art.” Find mugs, bake ware, lamps, vases and other utilitarian items that double as eye candy for a shelf at home. If you’re looking for something more personal, bring in a picture and they’ll hand-paint it onto a pottery piece of your choice. Rest assured that the work will be quality. A few of the store’s artists have been there for more than thirty years, and the shop’s pottery is sold wholesale throughout the U.S., including national catalogs.
Finalists: Artisan Gallery, Belleville/Paoli; Gary’s Art & Frame Shop, Middleton
