Bernard D. Alderman

Bernard D. Alderman, age 86, passed away on December 25, 2014, in Madison. He was born and raised in Beverly, MA. He attended Colby College in Maine (1947-51). He then trained at Andover-Newton Theological School and became the pastor at Livermore Falls Baptist Church and Moose Hill Free Will Baptist Church (1954-63). In 1963 he married Jean Poole, also of Beverly, MA, and they went abroad to study in Vienna, where Bernard was a student of Viktor Frankl. Upon return to the States, he was asked to be a two-year interim Dean of Students at the New England Conservatory. His deep interest in people and their problems took him to the Center Club of Boston, a social club catering to those who had been in mental hospitals. He worked at Center Club for 19 years and ultimately became Director of the Club, now located at Bowker St., Boston. Later he became a Supervisor at Mystic Valley Elder Services in Malden, MA. Upon retirement he continued to volunteer both as a teacher of English as a second language and with the elderly in Framingham, where he lived for 28 years. His life was one of service.

He leaves his wife of 51 years, Jean; a sister, Barbara Joy of Beverly, a son, Ian, daughter-in-law, Irene, and young grandchildren, Lillian (8) and Miles (4).

A remembrance service will be held in Madison, WI.
