Beloit Memorial falls in shootout in WIAA soccer
Menomonee Falls rallies to advance to state Div. 1 final
MILWAUKEE — Menomonee Falls outscored Beloit Memorial 3-2 in a shootout to win their WIAA State Boys Soccer Division One semifinal game at Uhlien Soccer Park in Milwaukee Friday night.
Beloit Memorial jumped out to a 2-0 lead at halftime on goals by Jose Barron and Ricardo Ramos.
Ramos’ second goal put the Purple Knights ahead 3-0 at the 67:44 mark.
But the teams combined to score five goals over the next 19 minutes and it headed to overtime tied 4-4.
Both teams scored in the first overtime.
Brandon Dantone put Memononee Falls ahead 5-4, but 36 seconds later, Beloit Memorial’s Alberto Martinez got the equalizer and it went to a shootout tied 5-5 after two overtimes.
In the shootout, Menomonee Falls scored on its first three attempts by Alex Eastman, Joe Burgoyne and Kay Olapo. Beloit’s Jose Gutierrez and Alberto Martinez made penalty kicks for the Purple Knights.
Beloit ends its season 20-2-7.
Menomonee Falls will play Marquette University School for the Division One Championship at 5 p.m. Saturday.
