Beloit man admits to drinking, faces 6th OWI
A Beloit man is facing his sixth drunken driving charge after being pulled over for a traffic violation and admitting to a deputy that he had been drinking, Rock County officials said.
Just before noon a Rock County sheriff’s deputy stopped a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero at Fourth Street and Liberty Avenue in Beloit for a traffic violation, according to a release.
The deputy noticed a strong odor of intoxicants coming from the driver, John P. Purdy, 44, and attempted to conduct field sobriety tests, officials said. Purdy, who admitted to consuming alcohol, refused the test and told the deputy he would likely be over the legal limit to drive.
Purdy was arrested for sixth-offense operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was also cited for operating after revocation.
