Belleville community ‘Lights up the Darkness’ for suicide awareness
BELLEVILLE, Wis. — The Belleville community lit up the night Saturday for suicide awareness.
The event came in the middle of Suicide Awareness Month, and organizers said they hope to promote mental health awareness.
“Mental health gets worse at night,” said organizer Jessica Deegan. “Maybe you’re alone, so nighttime can be a really hard time for people, so we wanted to make it apparent that we can light up the darkness.”
The event featured a one-mile walk around the city’s community park at dusk with glow sticks and a floating water lantern release on Lake Belle Ville.
