Belleville man leads MPD, State Patrol on vehicle pursuit
28-year-old gave several excuses for not stopping on Beltline frontage road
MADISON, Wis. — A Belleville man led Madison police on a short vehicle pursuit after an officer attempted a traffic stop Saturday morning, according to a release.
A Madison officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on the south frontage road near Seminole Highway off of the Beltline around 10:30 a.m., officials said.
The officer exited the Beltline onto Todd Drive and attempted a traffic stop with the vehicle, according to the release. The driver, John G. Mosgnaller, 28, refused to stop and went back onto the eastbound Beltline.
Mosgnaller exited the Beltline at Rimrock Road and eventually stopped for officers on County Road MM at Lacy Road in Fitchburg, police said.
Mosgnaller gave several excuses for not stopping, but officers said none of them were proven to be true.
Wisconsin State Patrol troopers said they were in a pursuit with Mosgnaller minutes before Madison police attempted the traffic stop, according to the release. Troopers had terminated their pursuit at McKee Road and Seminole Highway.
Mosgnaller was arrested on charges of reckless driving, speed and two counts of eluding police. He will also be charged by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
