Barbara Elaine (Hillstrom) Walser
December 23, 2014. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Dedicated nurse for more than 40 years. Her work ranged from being a surgical nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital to being a hospice nurse for Home Health United. Born in East St. Louis, II, she grew up in Markesan, WI where her father moved his veterinary practice. In 1968, she married Roland Walser of Black Earth, WI after dating for eight years. She resided on the Walser family farm, worked and raised her two children. Prior to having children she and Roland were international travelers, including time skiing in the European Alps. Barb had a passion for knitting and gardening. She was always buying yarn and going to knitting camps. Later in life she enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her two grand-daughters, Ellen and Erin.
Preceded in death by her parents Elaine and Werner Hillstrom, brother Eric Hillstrom and numerous other family members. She is survived by her husband Roland, children Debra Walser of Madison, WI, Curtis and Rochelle (Regenauer) Walser of Greendale, WI, brother Curt (Helen) Hillstrom of Minneapolis, MN, sister Lorna Hillstrom-Mosby of New York City, NY, and sister-in-law, Clarice Hillstrom of Haymarket, VA.
Funeral services will be held at the ST. PAUL location of ST. JOHN-ST. PAUL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 8775 Hwy. 19, Mazomanie at 11 AM on Saturday, January 3, 2015, with the Reverend Beth Schultz Byrnes presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 2421 Church Street, Cross Plains from 4 PM until 7 PM on Friday, January 2, 2015.
The family would like to thank the staff of the UW Hospital and Clinics Cancer center and Agrace Hospice Care for providing care to our “Angel in disguise” during her brief battle. Memorials in Barbara’s name may be gifted to St. John-St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Second Harvest Food Bank.
