Baraboo woman, dog killed in crash, officials say
WESTFIELD, Wis. — A Baraboo woman and her dog were killed Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash, Sauk County officials said.
County emergency crews were notified of a the crash just before 4 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 23 and County Road W in the township of Westfield, according to a release.
Janette R. Accola, 87, of Baraboo, was driving a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero west on County Road W and pulled out in front of 44-year-old Timothy G. Houk, of Marshfield, who was driving a 2009 Chrysler minivan north on Highway 23, investigators said.
Accola and a dog riding in her car died at the scene, according to the release. Houk suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials said both drivers were wearing seat belts and neither alcohol nor speed are believed to be factors in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation. Traffic was detoured around the scene for about 2 1/2 hours, officials said.
