Bank robbery prompts west side school lockdown
Police lockdown Chavez Elementary for 20 minutes during search for robber
MADISON, Wis. — Chavez Elementary School and Country Grove Preschool were put on lockdown for about 20 minutes Thursday afternoon because of a bank robbery nearby, Madison police said.
Officials said they were dispatched to reports of a bank robbery at 2:53 p.m. at the Associated Bank inside Copps at 6655 McKee Road.
The school was locked down for about 20 minutes because of its proximity to the bank and the fact that the robbery happened around the time students were supposed to be released for the day, police said.
A weapon was not seen or implied, the robber just demanded money, police said. A K-9 unit was brought in to track the robber as he is believed to have fled on foot.
The robber is described as a white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing about 150-180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a striped shirt, cargo-type pants, a dark stocking hat, a scarf wrapped around the lower half of his face and tinted aviator-style sunglasses.Madison crime map
