Badgers to host NCAA volleyball next weekend
Wisconsin opens against Western Michigan Thursday
MADISON — The Wisconsin Badgers volleyball team has earned the highest NCAA tournament seed in program history as the Badgers were selected as the No. 4 overall seed in the championship bracket on Sunday night.
UW will host first-round and second-round matches on Thursday-Friday in the UW Field House.
Marquette (24-8) and Illinois State (26-5) play the opening match on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. while Wisconsin takes on Western Michigan (22-13) in the second match at 7:30 p.m.
Winners will advance to the second-round match on Friday at 7 p.m. The second-round winner advances to the Louisville Regional on Dec. 12-13.
“We’re excited to be playing back in the Field House,” head coach Kelly Sheffield said. “Hopefully we’ll be able to pack both of those matches.
“Its three really good teams, everyone is good when you get into the tournament. These are three teams that have a lot of success coming to Madison so hopefully it will be a great show.”
The Badgers are 34-17 (.644) in 17 NCAA tournament appearances.
