Badgers star Cole Caufield signs with NHL’s Montreal Canadiens

MONTREAL — Cole Caufield has officially signed an entry-level contract with the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens.

The Badgers hockey star was the 15th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.

Caufield, 20, finished his sophomore season with Wisconsin in the Badgers’ loss to Bemidji State in the NCAA Tournament on Friday night. He will now report to the American Hockey League.

Caufield led the country with 30 goals and a Big Ten-high 52 points this season as Wisconsin won the Big Ten regular season title and earned a No. 1 seed in the tournament. He was also Big Ten Player of the Year and a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award for the best player in Division I.
