MADISON, Wis. — After a breakout freshman season, Badger running back Braelon Allen is getting national recognition.

After being named a finalist for Freshman of the Year last season, Allen is now on the watch list for this year’s Maxwell Award, given to the most outstanding player in college football. Allen was the only Badger named to the watch list.

Allen led the Badgers in rushing yards last year and was one of only four Wisconsin true freshmen to run for 1,000 yards in a season. One of those true freshmen was Ron Dayne, who would go on to win the Maxwell Award in 1999. Dayne is the only Badger to ever win the award.

Allen is one of 16 sophomores named to this year’s watch list including a pair of Ohio State Buckeyes, C.J. Stroud and TreVeyon Henderson. The Badgers open up Big Ten play against the Buckeyes in Columbus on September 24.
