Badgers Softball falls to Oregon, eliminates Albany
Will face Ducks Sunday
EUGENE, Ore. — Badgers softball hung with top-seeded Oregon for six inning before the Ducks scored five runs and won 6-1.
Oregon dominated Saturday’s game at Howe Field. The Badgers were held without a hit into the sixth inning, but the Ducks could only muster a 1-0 lead. Stephanie Peace gave Wisconsin their only glimmer of hope when she hit a solo home run in the sixth to tie the game 1-1.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Ducks took flight. They put runners on base before the Badgers replaced pitcher Taylor Paige-Stewart with Cassandra Darrah. The change didn’t pay off. Janie Takeda hit a two run double, followed by a Janelle Lindvall home run, and the Ducks won the game 6-1.
After that, Wisconsin was forced to play Albany in an elimination game. Early on, Charlise Castro put the Great Danes on top with a home run and Albany led 4-0. From there, it was all Badgers. A four run seventh was highlighted by Chloe Miller’s home run that gave the Badgers an 8-4 lead. That was all Wisconsin needed as they won 8-4.
Wisconsin plays Oregon Sunday at 3 p.m. Because the tournament is double elimination, Wisconsin needs to beat the Ducks twice in order to advance in the NCAA Tournament.
