Badgers to retire Michael Finley’s jersey
Finley was the first Badger to score 2,000 points
MADISON, WIS. — Michael Finley’s name will be forever enshrined in Badger history. His No. 24 jersey will be retired during a halftime ceremony, the team announced Friday.
Finley will be the third Badger men’s basketball player to have his number retired, alongside Ab Nicholas and Frank Kaminsky.
“It’s a great honor,” Finley said in a statement Friday. “It represents a lot, not just to me but to all the teammates I had.”
Finley was the first Badger to score 2,000 points and guided the team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 47 years in 1994.
He was twice-named to the All-Big Ten team and was a three-time AP honorable mention All-American.
Finley was drafted in the first round by the Pheonix Suns in 1995 and won an NBA championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2007.
The No. 24 will remain in circulation at Wisconsin.
