Badger track star is heading for the Olympics
The Big Ten track and field championships will begin on Friday at the McClimon Complex on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, and one Badger athlete to keep an eye on is junior distance runner Mohammed Ahmed.
He more than likely qualified for the Olympics for the Canadian team by finishing sixth in the 10,000-meter run at the Payton Jordan Track Invitational in California at the end of April.
Ahmed was born in Africa before moving to Canada as a child. He has already won an individual and team Big Ten cross-country championship, and now, he’s an Olympian.
“I don’t know how good I am really,” said Ahmed. “I just listen to my coaches and I just have fun with it. I feel like if you take yourself too serious, you get in trouble.”
The meets starts at noon Friday in Madison.
