MADISON — The Badger men’s hockey team didn’t win Friday night, but it didn’t lose, either..
Wisconsin and Ferris State played to a 1-1 tie at the Kohl Center, but the Badgers won the shootout 1-0. The game will count as a tie on the Wisconsin record.
The first two periods were scoreless, but at the 2:12 mark of the third period, Tim Davison hit Cameron Hughes with a long lead pass. Hughes’ shot was stopped, but freshman Matt Ustaski put in the rebound to give Wisconsin a 1-0 lead.
Five minutes later, Andrew Dorantes scored for Ferris State to tie the game at 1, setting up the three-round shootout.
Joel Rumpel stopped Ferris State’s Gerald Mayhew on the first attempt, but Morgan Zulinick converted his chance to give the Badgers the lead in the shootout.
After the Bulldogs’ Matt Robertson and the Badgers’ Joseph LaBate were both denied on their attempts, Ferris State’s Chad McDonald hit the crossbar to give Wisconsin the 1-0 shootout win.
Wisconsin’s season record is now 0-8-1. Ferris State is 7-6-1, 4-4 in the WCHA.
The Wisconsin Badger women’s hockey team scored three goals in a 2:18 span in the third period to earn a 5-0 win at New Hampshire.
Five different Badgers scored in the game – Baylee Wellhausen, Ericka Sowchuck, Katy Josephs, Karley Sylvester and Blayre Turnbull.
Ann-Renee Desbiens stopped 16 shots to improve to 11-2-1 on the season.
Wisconsin outshot UNH 38-16.
