Badger football schedules Maryland series — eventually
Home and home will begin in 2020
MADISON — The Wisconsin football team continues to shape its future schedules with Thursday’s announcement that UW has agreed with Maryland to play a home-and-home series with the Terps in 2020 and 2021.
The two teams will square off for the first time in history in 2020 at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison. The following season, the Badgers will travel to Byrd Stadium in College Park, Md.
“The world of college football changes dramatically in 2014 with the implementation of the playoff system,” head coach Bret Bielema said. “This is another step towards strengthening our non-conference schedule and helping us recruit nationally.”
The last time UW faced an ACC opponent was a 20-14 win over Miami in the 2009 Champs Sports Bowl. The last regular-season meeting with an ACC foe came in 2005 when the Badgers recorded a 14-5 win at North Carolina.
Maryland has been to seven bowl games in the last 11 seasons. Under second-year head coach Randy Edsall, the Terps have already doubled their win total from last season and head into the weekend with a 2-0 ACC mark.
Wisconsin will now face at least one BCS conference opponent in each of the next nine seasons. In addition to the Maryland series, UW has home-and-home series with Washington State (2014 and 2015), Virginia Tech (2016 and 2017) and Washington (2018 and 2019). The Badgers will also face BYU three times in the next six seasons (2013, 2017 and 2018).
