Britton Mckenzie

Canadian police arrested a convicted sex offender Thursday who went missing from Sun Prairie last week after he cut off his GPS monitoring bracelet.

Britton Mckenzie, 66, is being held in Sudbury, Ontario, after police arrested him without incident in a traffic stop, according to a Sun Prairie Police Department statement.

Mckenzie is known to visit public places like libraries and coffee shops, where he exposes himself to young women, the statement said.

Neither Police Lt. Brian Teasdale nor Wisconsin Department of Corrections spokeswoman Jackie Guthrie could independently confirm Canadian news reports that Mckenzie tried to pass himself off as an NFL scout and former Green Bay Packer when he stopped for an oil change in Chatham, Ontario. A garage employee reportedly became suspicious and discovered from home that Mckenzie was a wanted sex offender.

Sun Prairie police have not charged Mckenzie with a crime yet, according to the statement.
