Authorities Investigate Richland County Shooting

The Richland County Sheriff’s Office said that they’re still investigating an early-morning shooting in Buena Vista Township last Sunday that left one man hospitalized with a head wound and another in jail.

Authorities said that a fight between Antonio Ramos, 29, and Daniel Cruz Gonzalez, 20, — both of Richland Center — escalated into a shooting in which Ramos suffered a head wound from a round fired from .22 caliber rifle. The incident occurred near the intersection of County Highway B and State Highway 130.

After the shooting, Gonzalez fled the scene while Ramos drove himself to a nearby farm, where authorities were called. Ramos was taken by ambulance to Richland Hospital, but then rushed by Med Flight helicopter to University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.

Sheriff’s deputies and the department’s K-9 searched the area and found Gonzalez in a home about 2 miles west of the shooting. He was taken into custody without incident, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

Gonzalez was booked into Richland County Jail on suspicion of two felony charges, including endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon and first-degree recklessly endangering safety.

According to the news release, Ramos is expected to fully recover from his wound.
