21-year-old accused of killing mother held on $100,000 bond
AVOCA, Wis. — An Iowa County judge has set a $100,000 cash bond for a man accused of killing his mother and a dog at a home in Iowa County earlier this week.
Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Justice identified the suspect Wednesday as 21-year-old Sean Pickett of Avoca. Pickett is accused of killing his 54-year-old mother, Susan Pickett, on Monday.
Pickett faces charges of first degree intentional homicide and intentional animal mistreatment leading to death.
According to a news release, local law enforcement got a call Monday afternoon from Pickett reporting that his mother was dead. When crews responded to the scene they made contact with Pickett and found the victim deceased. Pickett was taken into custody shortly after law enforcement responded.
Authorities said the incident was isolated and there is no threat to the public.
Several years prior, Pickett was found guilty of battery and criminal damage to property for an incident which took place in 2016 during New Year’s Eve. According to a criminal complaint, Pickett had battered his mother and another man at a home in Mineral Point.
The complaint said Pickett had asked the man for a beer and became upset after the man said he needed to ask his mother first. Officials said Pickett proceeded to strike both the man and Pickett’s mother. The complaint said Pickett also broke a glass cabinet after shoving the man.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the current investigation with help from the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office and Village of Avoca Police Department. The DOJ’s investigation is ongoing.
