Attress J. “AJ” Harrison

Atress J. “AJ” Harrison, age 76, died on Friday, May 5, 2017 in his home. He was born on April 18, 1941 in Carmi, IL to Nathaline Carter and Atress Harrison, Sr. AJ and Kirsten Christensen were married in May 1966. They lived and raised their children in Madison and Slinger, WI. AJ served in the US Air Force from 1959-1964 as an Aircraft Control and Radar Warning Operator and was stationed at Truax Field in Madison, Wisconsin beginning January 1960. AJ worked for Wisconsin Bell/Ameritech/SBC/AT&T for 31 years, and held various positions in Madison, Milwaukee and the Milwaukee area.

After retirement, AJ enjoyed babysitting his grandchildren, traveling, working at the polls in a number of elections, and volunteering his time registering voters. He also enjoyed barbequing, cooking, deer hunting, golfing, and playing cards with his friends, as well as spending time with his family. AJ was outgoing, gregarious and although he enjoyed meeting new people and was quick to make friends, he was blessed with a few special friendships he held for decades.

In addition to his wife, AJ is survived by sons Atress III and Torben (Lynelle), and daughters Tonja (Troy) Lepien and Thora (Alit) Balk. He is also survived by grandchildren, Brooke and Hope Harrison, Astrid and Ebba Harrison, Sophie and Aidan Lepien, Jener, Minna and Anders Balk and great granddaughter, Aubri Harrison. He is further survived by sisters and brothers James (Mary) Cason, John (Mattie) Cason, Hellen Corder, Marie Foster, Dorothy Grier, Carl Moss, George Moss, Cora (Titus) Cooper, Cynthia Mallory, Sheri Lowe, and Susan Moss, as well as many nieces and nephews, and his dear aunt Beuliah Carter.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, step-father Manuel Moss, and siblings Sharon Bridges and Clarence Moss. He was also preceded in death by his in-laws, Edith and Ove Christensen.

The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Home Health United Hospice Care and friends and neighbors for their invaluable support over the last few months. They are also grateful to the volunteers, organizers, and sponsors of Badger Honor Flight for giving AJ a final wonderful and meaningful adventure.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Ave., Madison. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Light refreshments will follow.
