A reported repeat shoplifter was arrested leaving East Towne Mall Monday afternoon with $700 worth of merchandise, Madison police said.

A Sears loss prevention officer called Madison police around 1 p.m. after seeing a repeat shoplifter in the East Towne Mall store, according to a release.

The employee said James M. Grider, 33, has been connected to a series of recent tool thefts at the store and also the West Towne Mall Sears.

The value of the items Grider has stolen in the past was estimated at over $3,000, officials said.

As Grider attempted to leave the store Monday with $700 worth of tools, officers took him into custody.

He was arrested on tentative charges of felony retail theft and bail jumping.
